The long-awaited sequel
In 1990, development began on ‘Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian’, though the project had to be shelved after Burton started work on ‘Batman Returns’.
Nothing was said about the follow-up flick until 2011 when ‘Dark Shadows’ writer Seth Grahame-Smith was commissioned to write a new sequel, though three years went by before an update was provided.
Burton said of the movie in 2014: “There is a script, and I would love to work with [Michael Keaton] again. I think there is now a better chance than ever … I miss that character. There’s something that’s cathartic and amazing about it. I think it’s closer than ever.”
Eventually, work on the product got back underway, and 36 years after the original ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ finally hit cinemas in 2024.
The sequel saw the return of Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara, and the flick also included newcomers Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe and Monica Bellucci.
