Darker story

‘Beetlejuice’ is a relatively fun and light-hearted take on the undead, but the movie originally had a much darker story.

In screenwriter Michael McDowell’s first script, Beetlejuice was a winged demon whose human form was that of a small Middle Eastern man.

The creature’s plan was a lot more sinister too, and was more focused on taking a soul instead of marriage and a return to the mortal world.
