A real marriage made in hell
Ike became addicted to cocaine by the mid-70s which heavily impacted his relationship with Tina.
The pair, who tied the knot in 1962, were married for 16 years before their bitter divorce in 1978.
Their tumultuous marriage left Tina physically and emotionally scarred as well as financially ruined.
Tina recalled in her first autobiography 'I, Tina' the harrowing abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband.
As well as mentally manipulating Tina, she suffered from numerous broken bones as a result of his beatings and on one occasion third degree burns after he threw hot coffee in her face.
She wrote: "He used my nose as a punching bag so many times that I could taste blood running down my throat when I sang.
"He broke my jaw. And I couldn’t remember what it was like not to have a black eye."
Five years after her divorce in 1978, Tina - who first left Ike in 1976 - gave an interview to PEOPLE magazine in 1981, in which she said: "I was living a life of death.
"I didn't fear him [Ike] killing me when I left, because I was already dead. When I walked out, I didn't look back."
