Forming The Beach Boys
In 1961, Brian, his brothers, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine made their debut as a music group called The Pendletons.
That same year, they released their first single, Surfin’, aiming to ride the wave of the sport’s growing popularity.
The success of the track led to a rebranding as The Beach Boys. Surfin’ entered the US Billboard Hot 100, and the following year’s Surfin’ Safari broke into the top 20, securing the band a deal with Capitol Records.
