Etch-a-Sketch
This vintage toy actually made its debut in 1960 but enjoyed something of a boom in the decades that followed. By the end of the 1980s, more than 50 million had been sold and children everywhere drew masterpieces with the white plastic knobs.
Inventor André Cassagnes - who died in 2013 - said at the start of the 1990s: "I am not an artist, but I love symmetry and geometry. I am not an engineer, but I might well be ingenious."
