Following Jordan Peele's smash-hit psychological thriller ‘Get Out’, fans were excited to see what the director had in store next. Unfortunately, ‘Us’ left a lot of viewers scratching their heads.
The film, which stars Jordan Belle, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Elisabeth Moss, sees the Wilson family get attacked by mysterious figures, who are revealed to look exactly the same as them.
Of course, with characters having exact replicas, eventually some audience members will be baffled as to who is who.
Still, the director explained that he made the creative decision to include the idea of doppelgangers as a way to represent the idea that "we are our own worst enemy”.
He said: “We are afraid of the shadowy, mysterious ‘other’ that’s gonna come and kill us and take our jobs and do whatever, but what we’re really afraid of is the thing we’re suppressing: our sin, our guilt, our contribution to our own demise. No one’s taking responsibility for where we’re at.”
