‘Car-fu’
One of the most impressive action sequences in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ is the pulse-pounding car fight around the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, and Keanu Reeves did everything in his power to ensure the scene delivered.
The actor trained for nine months with stunt coordinator Scott Rogers to prepare for the sequence, and honed his driving skills.
Eventually, Reeves was able to effortlessly spin around in his vehicle while shooting and reloading his pistol.
Interestingly, the scene also couldn’t be shot on location due to the logistical challenges involved in shutting down lanes around the Arc de Triomphe, and so the sequence was instead shot at Berlin’s Tegel Airport, with the Parisian backdrop later being added in through CGI.
Reeves explained: “This gunfight is in the middle of the traffic circle around the Arc de Triomphe. We worked at a non-operational airport in Berlin, Tegel.
“We did the wire work on the tarmac, and gunfights and judo through several lanes of traffic. We’ve had gun-fu in the previous films, and now we have car-fu.”
