‘Spartan’ is an underrated political thriller that showcases Val Kilmer’s action skills in a sharp and intricate story.

The 2004 film - which sees Val Kilmer play a no-nonsense special operative - follows his desperate mission to track down a kidnapped government official’s daughter, uncovering a web of corruption along the way.

Reflecting on working with director David Mamet, Kilmer praised the filmmaker’s unique approach.

He said: “His scripts are like music - you have to hit every note exactly, and when you do, it’s magic.”
