Sloth the sports star

Before he played Sloth in ‘The Goonies’, John Matuszak was a defensive lineman in the NFL and played for several teams, including the Oakland Raiders, winning two Super Bowls before he transitioned to Hollywood.

As a reference to Matuszak’s NFL career, Sloth can be seen wearing a Raiders T-shirt early in the film.

The character also triumphantly rips his vest and other shirt off towards the end of the movie, revealing a T-shirt sporting a familiar ’S’ logo, as a nod to director Richard Donner’s 1978 ‘Superman’ blockbuster.
