In an effort to ensure the children were genuinely amazed by the impressive scale of One-Eyed Willy’s ship, director Richard Donner did not allow the kids from seeing the ship before filming.
The ship took over two-and-a-half months to build, and Donner went out of his way to hide it from his young cast during its construction.
The trick worked, and the young cast was completely blown away by what they were seeing.
Unfortunately, the scene had to be re-shot because a teenage Josh Brolin let slip a swear word after seeing the grand scale of the ship.
