Michael Keaton
Michael Keaton became a household name after starring as The Caped Crusader in Tim Burton’s ‘Batman’ (1989), and would go on to appear in the sequel 'Batman Returns' three years later.
However, for the third entry - ‘Batman Forever’ - the character was instead played by Val Kilmer, after Keaton disagreed with Joel Schumacher’s vision for the film.
Keaton - who worked with director Tim Burton on his two Batman films - recalled: “I remember one of the things I walked away from thinking, ‘Oh boy, I can’t do this,’ [was] where [Joel] said, ‘I don’t understand why everything has to be so dark and so sad.’ “And I went, ‘Wait a minute. Do you know how this guy got to be Batman?’”
Val was also replaced by George Clooney for the next entry into the franchise, ‘Batman and Robin’.
