Britney Spears in The Notebook

After being chosen ahead the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Claire Danes and Jessica Biel, Britney Spears was left in the final two with Rachel McAdams in contention for the role as Allie Hamilton in ‘The Notebook’.

Despite a "phenomenal" audition, Britney missed out on the movie but she wasn't concerned as it meant she could work on her album 'In The Zone'.

She reflected: "‘The Notebook’ casting came down to me and Rachel McAdams, and even though it would have been fun to reconnect with Ryan Gosling after our time on ‘The Mickey Mouse Club’, I’m glad I didn’t do it.

"If I had, instead of working on my album ‘In the Zone’, I’d have been acting like a 1940’s heiress day and night."
