Christina Applegate in Legally Blonde

Reese Witherspoon is renowned for playing socialite Elle Woods in ‘Legally Blonde’, but the star wasn’t the first choice for the part.

Christina Applegate had been offered the movie but ultimately decided it was too similar to her role in the sitcom ‘Married … With Children’, and rejected it.

She said: "I got scared of repeating myself.

"What a stupid move that was, right? [But] Reese deserved that. She did a much better job than I ever could, and so that’s her life, that’s her path."
