Last-minute reshoots
Reshoots are fairly common in Hollywood, and can often come fairly close to the movies release. Even so, this was cutting it close!
After director Herbert Ross decided the original prom closing sequence wasn’t a satisfying conclusion, since it was entirely shot in slow-motion, he quickly had to rush around to film an alternative ending.
The producers were able to find $250,000 for the reshoot, and so Herbert was able to film the new, more bombastic ending - just six weeks before ‘Footloose’ took to the silver screen!
