Batman (1966)
Whilst not a particularly faithful translation from page to screen, ‘Batman’ is still an absolute joy to watch.
Starring Adam West as the Caped Crusader and Burt Ward as Robin, the 1966 movie scores a brilliant 81% rating on the reviewing website, and its clear to see why.
The film is a campy, but fun outing of the hero, as the dynamic duo try to thwart the hilarious doings of the Joker (Cesar Romero), the Riddler (Frank Gorshin) and Penguin (Burgess Meredith).
Speaking about the character shortly after the movie’s release, Adam revealed he had tried to incorporate all he knew about Batman into his performance as the superhero.
He explained: “When I got the part, I tried to remember Batman as I knew him when I was a kid — with emotional recall. We left the apartment with its books, records, artwork; the patio faced the ocean. We’re trying to create a folk hero … when you play a legend, you have to play it with a straight direct line, direct speech and movement.”
