4) The Last Jedi
With a critical score of 91% it would be fair to assume that ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi’ was one of the most universally-loved entries in the franchise. You’d be wrong!
The 2017 movie, which stars Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver, made some incredibly bold story decisions that fundamentally changed the identity of ‘Star Wars’, particularly the initial portray of Luke Skywalker as a failure, before ultimately coming to terms with his wrongdoings and becoming a hero once more.
Many were not keen on what director Rian Johnson did to that character, and the 42% audience score certainly reflects that.
One of the biggest critics of the movie was Mark Hamill himself, who said he “fundamentally disagreed” with everything the director did with his character. However, after watching the movie, the 72-year-old actor emphasised that his opinion had changed.
He said: “I’ve had trouble accepting what he [Rian Johnson] saw for Luke. But again, I have to say, having seen the movie, I was wrong.”
