9) The Phantom Menace
George Lucas’ prequel trilogy didn’t get off to the best start.
With a 52% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, ‘Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace’ was plagued by a convoluted and confusing story, tied together with painfully-dry performances and jolted dialogue.
Still, many fans loved seeing a young Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd) take part in a high-speed podrace, and the final lightsaber duel between Qui-Gon Jin (Liam Neeson) Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and Darth Maul (Ray Park) is still considered to be one of the best in the franchise.
Recently, Neeson emphasised that he was “proud” of the 1999 movie and was delighted to have been a part of the 'Star Wars' universe.
He said: “I like the film. I’m proud of it and proud to have been a part of it.
“I got to be a Jedi. I got to play with those wonderful lightsabers and stuff. It was terrific, it really was.”
