Gran Turismo took a different approach to the video game movie by basing its story on the real-life career of Jann Mardenborough, a gamer who used his success playing the racing simulator to pursue a professional motorsport career.

David Harbour, Orlando Bloom and Archie Madekwe starred in the 2023 film, directed by Neill Blomkamp.

The movie proved to be a hit at the box office but was criticised for using Mardenborough's crash at the Nurburgring Nordschleife – which resulted in the death of a spectator – as a plot device.
