The Abyss
Released in 1989 and directed by James Cameron The Abyss revolves around a group of Navy SEAL agents on a recovery mission encounter a "non terrestrial intelligence" in the sea.
In the documentary Deep Dive: A Conversation with James Cameron, the filmmaker revealed that he, as well as the movie’s cast and crew, worked underwater for “10 to 11 hours a day,” as he wanted to depict the characters’ interaction with the sea monster as realistically as possible.
He said: “We needed to be able to talk to each other underwater. So, most of the people doing the lightning and camera support were on regular scuba.”
