Where it all began
Born on 8 January, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, to Vernon Presley and Gladys Love, Elvis had a twin named Jesse, though the infant was tragically stillborn.
A young Elvis eventually picked up the guitar during his time at East Tupelo Consolidated School, and started having lessons from his uncle - though didn’t quite have the confidence to perform in front of others just yet.
Elvis recalled: “I took the guitar, and I watched people, and I learned to play a little bit. But I would never sing in public. I was very shy about it.”
