‘Elvis the Pelvis’
After bursting onto the scene with his first hit single ‘That’s All Right’ in 1954, Elvis began playing at clubs with lead guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, and he quickly became a teen heartthrob known as ‘Elvis the Pelvis’ thanks to his thrusting dance moves.
Elvis would also shake his legs back and forth much to the delight of the girls in the audience.
While legendary today, Elvis’ moves actually stemmed from his nerves, where the singer had to step back and steady himself at his first gig.
Moore later said: “During the instrumental parts, he would back off from the mike and be playing and shaking, and the crowd would just go wild.”
