Citizen Kane
A true Hollywood classic and a cinephile’s favourite, ‘Citizen Kane’, clearly did not blow moviegoers away when it hit to theatres in 1941.
The Orson Welles film was only able to pull in a shockingly low $1.7 million against a budget of roughly $840,000 – which is about $36.5 million in today's money.
Even so, 'Citizen Kane' went on to get nominated for nine Academy Awards – taking home the prize for best Original Screenplay – and is now regarded as one of Hollywood's best and most influential films in the industry's history.
