Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ may receive heaps of praise today, but the Gene Wilder-starring movie fell flat after it came to cinemas in 1971.
The children’s movie was made on a budget of $3 million, and finished its box office run with $4 million.
While many who did watch the picture enjoyed it, the biggest critic of the film was ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ writer Roald Dahl himself, who said he was disappointed in the choice of the director Mel Stuart, the music, and shockingly, of Wilder’s casting as Willy Wonka.
