High school drama

Scenes at the main characters' Woodsboro High School were initially going to be shot at Santa Rosa High School, but the institution pulled out of the project last-minute after finding out about the amount of violence present in the movie.

As a result, production had to move to a nearby community centre in Sonoma, which proved to be a major headache for Wes Craven.

So, as a joke, Scream’s Special Thanks section in the end credits features a note which reads "no thanks whatsoever to the Santa Rosa City School district governing board".
