When it hit the screens in December 1996, ‘Scream’ didn’t initially impress to be a major success.
On a budget of roughly $15 million, the movie opened to $6.4 million in the US, making it the fourth highest-grossing film of the weekend.
Many professionals considering the flick a failure, with Variety saying it was “dead on arrival”.
However, though its positive reception and good word-of-mouth, Scream’s popularity picked up, and it eventually ended its theatrical run in the US with $103 million, with a worldwide gross of $173 million worldwide.
