Drew Barrymore nearly played

Before Drew Barrymore portrayed the terrified Casey Becker, the actress was actually lined up to play a completely different role.

Originally, Barrymore was cast as final girl Sidney Prescott, though ultimately changed her mind about the part five weeks before production was due to commence.

Barrymore recounted: “In the horror film genre, my biggest pet peeve was that I always knew the main character was going to be slugging through at the end, but was going to creak by and make it."

As a result of her decision, Barrymore was instead cast as the short-lived Casey, and the role of Sidney was given to Neve Campbell.
