Oscars success

While it was only his second time directing, Mel Gibson proved he was as good behind the camera as he was in front of it.

'Braveheart' was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, and left the ceremony with five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director. 

As for the box office, the flick didn’t fail to impress. 

On a budget of around $72 million, the film ended its theatrical run with $209 million.
