Blood secrets
Considering its gory nature, Quentin Tarantino had to get creative in order to effectively depict the gruesome violence on-screen.
The director eventually turned to the 1970’s Chinese action films of old, and found that many of the flicks used to burst condoms that were filled with a red liquid to create the blood spurts.
Quentin was also very picky when it came to choosing the right mixture that would represent blood.
He said: “I'm really particular about the blood, so we're using a mixture depending on the scenes. I say, ‘I don't want horror movie blood, all right? I want Samurai blood.’ You can't pour this raspberry pancake syrup on a sword and have it look good. You have to have this special kind of blood that you only see in Samurai movies.”
