Shooting schedule
Some of the most memorable moments in the movie are Ferris' fourth wall-breaking monologues at the beginning and end of the picture, and while they may feel like lifetimes apart, the scenes were actually shot back-to-back.
Director John Hughes said he intentionally chose to shoot these scenes last to ensure that Matthew Broderick was as familiar as possible with the character, meaning the cheeky-chappy would come across as more natural.
John later said: "You met him after he'd been playing the part for two months shooting the other sequences, so here in this first piece he was very, very practiced in talking to the camera. He was practised in the character."
