Cameron's inspiration
Cameron Frye – played by Alan Ruck – would much rather spend all day in bed instead of going on an adventure, and John Hughes based the character off one of his high school friends.
The director explained that his childhood pal was a "lost person" whose family "neglected him", and folded those characteristics into Cameron.
He said: "He took that as license to really pamper himself.
"When he was sick, he actually felt good because it was difficult and tiring to have to invent diseases. When he actually had something real, he was relaxed."
