Narration irritation
After a less-than-stellar set of preview screenings, with audiences complaining the movie was too hard to follow producers Bud Yorkin and Jerry Perenchio decided to hire Roland Kibbee to write a voiceover for Rick Deckard in order to make the film less confusing.
Even so, after being told he had to record the narration, Harrison Ford was less than thrilled.
He recalled: “I thought that the film had worked without the narration. But now I was stuck recreating that narration. And I was obliged to do the voiceovers for people that did not represent the director’s interests.”
While the voiceover is present for the theatrical release, it was omitted from both the 1992 director’s cut and 2007’s ‘The Final Cut’.
