Directing troubles
Once the first draft of the screenplay was completed by Hampton Francher, Warner Bros. began the search for a director, and eventually landed on Ridley Scott, who had just directed the sci-fi smash-hit ‘Alien’.
However, the visionary was not interested in the project at first, and had already signed on to direct an adaption of another sci-fi classic, ‘Dune’, though was becoming impatient with its slow progress.
After deciding enough was enough, Ridley left ‘Dune’ and signed on to ‘Blade Runner’, leaving David Lynch to pick up from where he left off on the 1984 movie.
