The joke without a punchline

One of the biggest questions from the movie is what was the punchline to John Bender’s joke that he starts when he was crawling through the ceiling. Sadly for fans, the answer isn’t particularly exciting.

According to Judd Nelson - who played the character - he had improvised the line, and couldn’t think of a satisfying punchline.

Originally, the teen was meant to tell a joke that would end once he got back into the library and said, “forgot my pencil”, but no one could think up a good enough punchline.
