Sean Connery was nearly Morpheus

Laurence Fishburne is of course Morpheus, but several other famous faces nearly landed the role.

Initially, the 62-year-old actor was not offered the part, with Warner Bros. Instead turning to the likes of Russell Crowe, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert De Niro and Sir Sean Connery.

The ‘James Bond’ star was given the script, but turned the role down after he found the story too complicated.

Russell Crowe was also not a fan of the script, and admitted he couldn’t get past page 42!
