Jeremy Renner

Clint Barton aka Hawkeye has been played in the MCU by Jeremy Renner since 2012's 'Thor', although he did have a brief cameo in 2011's 'Thor'.

Hawkeye was a mainstay of the Avengers squad and beloved by fans, however, Renner was frustrated by his character's story arc in the first 'Avengers' film in 2012, which saw the expert marksman fall under the control of villain Loki and used against S.H.I.E.L.D.

Renner actually told Marvel Studios he'd be happy to be killed off if they didn't want him as an Avenger.

In 2016, he spilled: "I said ‘I’m giving you an option, if you just want to kick me out of this movie. Just, you know, at any given moment, if you wanna kill me off, daddy’s gonna be having a heart attack.’”

In subsequent films, Hawkeye was given a prominent role and the respect fans and Renner felt he deserved.
