The 1940s
In the 1940s Batman first moved from the page to the screen, appearing in the 15 chapter TV series ‘Batman', with Lewis Wilson playing the superhero.
This decade was also responsible for introducing some major characters in the Batman universe, including: Robin the Boy Wonder, the Joker, and Catwoman.
The 40s are when comic editor, Whitney Ellsworth, determined that Batman would not be a killer in his self-titled comic series.
The world of Gotham City was imagined and the Batmobile began transporting Batman from place to place.
