Catherine O’Hara acted next to a tennis ball instead of the kids

Filming with child actors can be difficult, as they are not allowed to work the long hours that adult performers are permitted to work.

Hilariously, to get around this issue, Catherine O’Hara, who played Kevin’s mom had to sometimes act with tennis balls, instead of the child actors.

Laughing about the situation later, Catherine admitted performing against a tennis ball was far from ideal.

She said: “We'd shoot a scene with one of the kids; then, as late as one in the morning, we'd shoot my close-ups. They'd have a tennis ball on a stand, the height of the kid's head, and the script supervisor would read the children's lines."
