Snow wasn’t in the budget, but then a blizzard came

With a budget of $18 million, the producers for the movie struggled to find the money to spend on fake snow, and so decided it would be best if they didn’t bother.

However, on the second day of shooting, a blizzard completely covered the set in snow, leaving them no choice but to bring in props for when it ultimately melted away.

In order to achieve the fake snow on a budget, the producers used mashed potato flakes to achieve the wintery look.
