Macaulay Culkin has 'unfinished business' with late Home Alone co-star Catherine O'Hara
Home Alone actor Macaulay Culkin still feels he owes his late co-star and on-screen mother Catherine O'Hara "a favour", insisting her passing came "just too soon".
Home Alone actor Macaulay Culkin feels like he has "unfinished business" with his late co-star Catherine O'Hara.
Catherine passed away in January, aged 71, and Macaulay has insisted her death was "too soon", and he still feels as though he owes his on-screen mother "a favour".
Speaking to Gentlemen's Journal, he said: "When Catherine passed away in January, that hit me.
"That hit me pretty good, 'cause, you know, it was just too soon.
"I definitely feel like I had unfinished business with her.
"I feel like I owed her a favour - and I don't like having an outstanding debt."
Several of Macaulay's Home Alone co-stars have passed away, including his on-screen father John Heard, who died in 2017 aged 71, but child star Culkin is aware he will probably "be one of the last people standing".
He added: "I’m not the tip of the sphere.
"I’m the butt of the sphere. I’m the caboose. I’m bringing up some of that old Hollywood guard kind of thing - I’m going to be one of the last people standing when it comes to that kind of stuff.
"But my life is unique to me. I don’t really have that many contemporaries when it comes to this stuff.
"I can’t look left and right and think: ‘Oh, those people have had a similar experience to me.’
"But I try to cherish that as much as I can. I feel like I’m living a really uniquely wonderful life."
Macaulay paid a heartfelt tribute to Catherine following her passing earlier this year.
Alongside two throwback photos of himself and Catherine, he wrote on Instagram: "Mama.
"I thought we had time.
"I wanted more.
"I wanted to sit in a chair next to you.
"I heard you.
"But I had so much more to say.
"I love you.
"I’ll see you later. (sic)"
One of the photos was taken from when Macaulay and Catherine starred together in the Home Alone film franchise. The second photo was taken in 2023, when the late actress supported Macaulay at his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.
Catherine - who played the actor's on-screen mom - said that day: "Home Alone was, is and always will be a beloved global sensation ... the reason families all over the world can't let a year go by without watching and loving Home Alone together is because of Macaulay Culkin."
In Home Alone, Culkin starred as Kevin McCallister, an eight-year-old boy who saved his house from home invasion, and Catherine portrayed his mother, Kate McCallister.
