Alternate versions
Long before The Wizard of Oz arrived in 1939, Hollywood had already brought L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel to the screen multiple times.
The first adaptation came in 1910 with the short film The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, followed by a 1925 feature-length version that even featured Laurel and Hardy’s Oliver Hardy as the Tin Man.
Beyond these two silent-era films, Baum’s beloved story also found life onstage, receiving a musical adaptation as early as 1902.
