Keanu Reeves - Speed 2

With ‘Speed’ proving to be a major success upon its 1994 release, a sequel was quickly greenlit, but lead actor Keanu Reeves refused to return.

Keanu starred in the film opposite Sandra Bullock as Jack Traven, a SWAT cop who has to keep a hijacked bus travelling at above 50 miles per hour, as if it drops below the limit, the vehicle will explode.

Keanu had read director Jan de Bont’s script for 1997’s ‘Speed 2: Cruise Control’, and decided it wasn’t for him.

He recounted: “I loved working with Jan de Bont and Sandra [Bullock], of course. It was just a situation in life where I got the script, and I read the script, and I was like, ‘Ah.’

“It was about a cruise ship, and I was like, ‘Bus not so fast, then a cruise ship is even slower than a bus.’ And I was just like, ‘I love you guys, but I just can't do it.’”

With Reeves departing the series, Jason Patric was brought on for the sequel, in which he starred opposite Sandra Bullock’s Annie Porter as Officer Alex Shaw.

While the ‘John Wick’ star sat out ‘Speed 2: Cruise Control’, has said he’d be up for a third movie with Bullock.

He said: “I mean, you know - we'd freakin' knock it out of the park."
