The Cowardly Lion cashed in
While Toto was paid handsomely for a dog, Bert Lahr was paid a lot more for his role as the Cowardly Lion.
The actor agreed to the film for a salary of $2,500 a week - with the contract stating he would be guaranteed work for a least five weeks.
However, Lahr made off with even more than what he expected, as production lasted an exhausted 26 weeks.
As for Tin Man and Scarecrow actors Jack Haley and Ray Bolger, they were paid even more at $3,000 a week.
