Long before ‘The Wizard of Oz’ released in 1939, Hollywood had brought author L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel to the big screen several times already.
The book was first adapted in 1910 for the short film ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’, and then again in 1925 for a feature-length outing - which even starred ‘Laurel and Hardy’s Oliver Hardy as the Tin Man.
As well as the two silent movies, ‘The Wizard of Oz’ also made its way onto the stage with a musical rendition of the story in 1902.
