Makeup mayhem

The Wicked Witch of the West famously has a bright green skin, though the makeup proved to be an utter nightmare for actress Margaret Hamilton.

To get the right look, the paint used to cover Hamilton’s face and hands included copper, which is toxic and could have given the actress serious health problems if it wasn’t removed properly.

Makeup artist Jack Young later recalled: “Every night when I was taking off the Witch's makeup, I would make sure that her face was thoroughly clean. Spotlessly clean. Because you don't take chances with green.”
