Alternate ending

After discovering his wife had been decapitated, David Mills is goading into shooting her killer, but that wasn’t always going to be how the thriller ended.

Originally, Detective Somerset was going to put a bullet in John Doe’s head, but Brad Pitt was adamant that he should be the ones to blow his brains out, reasoning anyone would put a bullet in their loved one’s killer without hesitation.

He later said: “He's got to shoot the killer in the end. He doesn't do the ‘right’ thing, he does the thing of passion.”
