Guillermo del Toro said no
Before David Fincher was set to direct ‘Seven’, Guillermo del Toro was actually offered the filmmaker’s chair.
Even though he was impressed by what he read, the visionary ultimately decided to turn it down because he found the story had a “very cynical view of the world”.
He later explained: “I loved it, I wanted to see it, but I’m a romantic, fat b****** and I don’t subscribe to that view.”
