While Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt are renowned for their starring roles in ‘Seven’, the two actors weren’t actually screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker’s first choices.
The writer actually envisioned William Hurt as Detector Somerset, though the actor never signed on.
The likes of Al Pacino, Harrison Ford and Gene Hackman were also reportedly considered, though no formal offer for any of them materialised, allowing Morgan Freeman to take the role.
As for David Mills, Denzel Washington did receive an offer for the part, though he turned it down, citing its dark themes for why his refusal.
Years later, Denzel admitted he wished he accepted the role after he watched the movie.
He said: “I thought the script was too demonic, then I saw the movie, and I was like 'oh, I blew it.' But, you know, it worked out alright.”
Brad Pitt of course, went on to play the character.
