Injuries and illness
Itβs fair to say the production of 'Total Recall' was an absolute nightmare.
A large portion of the 500-strong cast and crew came down with food poisoning during filming in Mexico City, which went on for six months.
As for Arnold Schwarzenegger, he suffered numerous hand injuries due to the sheer amount of physical stunts he had to perform.
During the scene where Douglas smashes a train window, a micro-explosive was meant to detonate just before he touched it. However, the explosion didn't go off β causing Arnold to smash the glass and cut his hand.
Then, Michael Ironside β who played Richter β managed to crack one of his ribs while filming the iconic elevator fight scene, but given he's a professional, the actor kept going and quite literally fought through the pain.
In an effort to ensure he didn't get injured any further in future takes, Michael wore a rib-protector that was once owned by NFL quarterback Jim Plunkett.
