Kathleen Turner as Chandler's dad

In 2001, Kathleen Turner was cast as Charles Bing, Chandler's gay dad, who performs as a drag queen under the name Helena Handbasket in Las Vegas. Kathleen later said she wouldn't accept such a role today.

She said: "How they approached with me with it, was ‘would you like to be the first woman playing a man playing a woman?’ I said yes, because there weren’t many drag/trans people on television at the time. Of course I wouldn't do it now because there would be real people able to do it."
