Stallone’s immediate reaction
After watching the first rough cut of the flick, which was about three hours long, Sylvester and his agent were not at all happy.
In fact, they both claimed it had made them sick, and insisted the film couldn’t be released in the state that it was.
Fearing it could be his “career killer”, the actor sought to buy all and destroy of the footage, though eventually agreed to let the producers re-cut it.
After lots of heavy editing, the released with the much leaner run-time of 93 minutes, and - most importantly - satisfied Sylvester enough to sign on to make sequels.
Looking back at the movie, the actor said he considering it to be one of his best pictures and said he “wouldn’t change a thing about it”.
